Whidbey Island is in the PNW and is filled with coffee shops, which makes sense because the PNW is pretty much where the coffee culture and craft began. There are several unique spots on the island to get coffee and get freshly roasted beans. The most available is a local coffee chain called Whidbey Coffee, which is, in essence, the Starbucks of Whidbey Island. That chain is not my favorite for drinks, however, they have gorgeous locations with big windows overlooking the water with a simple modern aesthetic. Below is a list of the 4 best coffee shops on the island.

Best Coffee Shops on Whidbey Island
Whidbey Coffee

Whidbey Coffee is the native chain on the island. The one downtown is my favorite location because it sits overlooking Oak Harbor with large windows offering a view of the harbor and distant Olympic mountain range. It is within walking distance to the cute old school downtown strip of Oak Harbor. This is a cute chain with local products, however, the coffee is like Starbucks and not the best craft coffee. They do roast their own coffee though.

Honeymoon Bay Coffee Roasters
Honeymoon Bay Coffee Roasters is probably the best roastery in Oak Harbor. The shop sits in downtown Oak Harbor and is one of the favorite local spots. Many of the islanders come here to get their coffee for at home. This place is also known for its homemade scones, and they are top rated on Trip Advisor.
Hours: 6am-7pm daily

Mukilteo Coffee Roasters

This is hands down the coolest coffee shop on the island. It’s in southern Whidbey but is worth a trip if you are staying on North Whidbey. The coffee shop is outside Freeland in the woods surrounded by nature and nothing else. The coffee shop is a roastery renown for their quality coffee and homemade baked goods. Their bear claw was fluffy with light almond paste and basically changed my life. They have a huge wooden cabin type room with lots of windows, light, and trees you can see through the windows, making you feel like you are in a cozy cabin. The space is gorgeous, and it is a hidden gem of the island known mostly by locals.

Rock Island Coffee

This is the newest coffee shop (2019) to hit the island on Midway Drive, one of the main thoroughfares of Oak Harbor. This is a trendy earthy coffee shop with lots of wood, great lighting, windows, and cool local products for sale. There are all kinds of candles, lotion, salves, and room mists, made with oils and local products and sellers as well as outdoor adventure PNW brand clothing, hats, and paraphernalia.
